About Us

Our Objective

line

We aim to inspire and support people to embrace and maintain a vegetarian lifestyle to create a more compassionate world.

WHO ARE WE?

THE Malaysian Vegetarian Society (MVS) is a non-profit, non-religious society aimed to promote the benefits of vegetarianism for our health and our environment. Established in Dec 1996, we are the only vegetarian organization representing the Vegans and Vegetarians in Malaysia.

HOW WE DO IT?

We work constructively with businesses, government agencies, policymakers and professionals, whilst always remaining independent. We rely on membership subscriptions and donations to carry out this vital work.

THE DILEMMA

The society abides by the international definition of vegetarianism, namely:

“Vegetarianism is the practice of living without the use of meat, fish, or fowl, with or without the addition of eggs and dairy products.”

While Some are confident in what they eat, there are others who need support and guidance. Many shoppers find it difficult to tell which food and drinks are produced using animal products. Restaurant owners or chefs are often confused about what Vegetarians can consume.
Furthermore, in Malaysia, there are some who consider egg as Vegetarian and again there are some who refrain from eating onion or garlic in their diet.
Health professionals receive little or no training in vegetarian nutrition. Hospitals rarely provide nutritious vegetarian meals to patients. Parents are often nervous about allowing their children to follow a vegetarian diet for fear of lack of protein.

THE MALAYSIAN VEGETARIAN SOCIETY IS HERE TO SUPPORT AND REPRESENT ALL VEGETARIANS.

WHAT DO WE DO?

WE GIVE VEGETARIANS AND VEGANS FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE A LOUDER, STRONGER, BETTER-INFORMED VOICE.

Our Works

So much of what we do is led by the many issues vegetarians and vegans face every day. Here is just a sample of our work:

Free Advice and Information Services

Through our free advice and information service, we support those wanting to learn more about the vegetarian lifestyle (largely through social activities like dinners, picnics, cooking demonstrations etc.)

Cook Extraordinary Vegetarian Dishes

We teach professional chefs and members of the public to cook extraordinary vegetarian food in our Vegetarian Society Cookery Classes and we also train food caterers and others on how to provide nutritious meals without meat.

Public Talks with Health Professionals

We organize public talks with health professionals and we are working towards having a reference library with books, articles, research papers, magazines about vegetarianism, an informative newsletter for members etc.

Future Culinary Chefs&Hospitality Students

We give numerous talks and lectures at various colleges and universities in Malaysia for future culinary chefs and hospitality students.

Awareness and Benefits of a Plant-based Diet

We run campaigns to create awareness and benefits of a plant-based diet.
